Since 1881.

The history and people of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.

In 1881, at the urging of Fr. Hyacinthe Kolopp, the Catholic farmers of Wood County built themselves a church — donating the timber, hauling the bricks, and giving the labor of their own hands. To choose a name, they wrote their patron saints on slips of paper and drew from a hat; the slip read “Aloysius,” the patron of farmer Aloysius Pfeiffer.

The present church was built in 1926, and its murals were restored in 2014. Today St. Aloysius is home to about nine hundred registered families and more than thirty ministries, with the parish school on the same campus. It is one of two Catholic parishes in Bowling Green, alongside St. Thomas More University Parish at BGSU, in the Diocese of Toledo.

Our Patron

St. Aloysius Gonzaga

June 21

A young Jesuit who gave up a noble inheritance at seventeen and died at twenty-three caring for plague victims in Rome. He is the patron of youth. His statue stands in our church, and his feast is June 21.

Our pastor

Fr. Tom McQuillen — Toledo native, ordained in 1996 — came to St. Aloysius on July 1, 2019, after nine years as a missionary in Zimbabwe (2000–2009) and service at St. Peter’s in Mansfield and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary. He holds an Open Door at the rectory on the first and third Thursdays of each month, 6–8 p.m., for anyone with questions about the faith.

We work toward the Kingdom of God on earth — worshiping at the Eucharist, living the sacraments, growing in personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and reaching out to the needs around us.
